WestJet has introduced a fee-free flight change policy for customers with bookings on flights scheduled from July 30 to August 4, 2026. This move comes as approximately 4,400 WestJet flight attendants, represented by CUPE Local 8125, hold the legal right to strike starting August 2 if no new agreement is reached.
Data shows 99.4% of WestJet’s flight attendants support the strike action amid unresolved negotiations concerning salaries, unpaid work hours, and working conditions. A strike by these cabin crew members could disrupt travel for up to 75,000 passengers each day.
WestJet is actively preparing contingency plans to manage potential service
interruptions during this period. Both the airline and CUPE Local 8125 have expressed preference for reaching a negotiated settlement rather than proceeding with a strike. The airline has advised travelers to verify affected flights and routes as talks continue.
