WestJet has cancelled its direct flights from St. John’s Airport (YYT) to Tampa and Orlando, Florida for July 16 and 17, 2026. The airline announced these cancellations follow an analysis of travel demand from the last season and maintained the decision was not taken lightly due to insufficient demand, and these direct routes will not resume for the spring 2027 season.
Passengers seeking to travel from St. John’s to Tampa or Orlando can no longer book direct WestJet flights and must now transfer through Toronto Pearson Airport, as WestJet encourages travelers to use this routing to reach Florida destinations.
Flight Attendant Labor Dispute Poses Additional Risks
WestJet’s
operations face further uncertainty with a potential strike by flight attendants within three weeks of July 16, 2026. The union representing WestJet flight attendants claims unpaid work as a key dispute point in contract negotiations which, if unresolved, could cause additional service disruptions.
