London Gatwick Airport is experiencing passenger facility disruptions on 26 July 2026 due to a water supply problem affecting both terminals. Flight operations remain normal despite the interruption.
Cause of Water Supply Disruption
The disruption at Gatwick stems from a power outage at a nearby water treatment facility managed by SES Water. This outage reduced water pressure and supply across parts of the Horley area, which includes the airport.
Passenger Impact and Airport Response
Passengers and staff at Gatwick have faced a lack of running water, preventing toilet flushing, hand washing, hot drink preparation, and refilling of water bottles. Water-dependent passenger facilities such as restaurants have been closed or disrupted.
To address immediate needs, the airport has been distributing bottled water and activated contingency plans.
Official Statements
Gatwick Airport confirmed the water issue affects both terminals and is under investigation. An airport authority stated: “A water issue in the Horley area is causing disruption at the airport this morning. The problem is affecting water supply in both terminals and is currently under investigation.” The airport also reported that “bottled water is being handed out to passengers and staff, and other contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the welfare of our passengers.”
SES Water acknowledged the power outage at their
facility caused complications including low water pressure or temporary loss of supply. The company said it is working closely with Gatwick Airport to restore normal water service as quickly as possible.
