The Villa Vie Odyssey, a luxury residential vessel offering cabins priced up to $11,000 per month, abruptly ended its round-the-world voyage after two years, stranding passengers in Cambodia. The ship, which departs from Belfast, Northern Ireland and can accommodate up to 650 guests, had planned to continue its itinerary with upcoming stops in Phu Quoc, Vietnam; India; South Africa; Brazil; Australia; and a final docking in Gibraltar by August 2030.

Fuel costs increased 344% after Iran war began

Villa Vie Residences, the U.S.-based operator, attributed the early termination to a sharp increase in fuel expenses, especially across parts of Asia. Monthly fuel costs per cabin rose from $1,800

to as much as $8,000, representing a 344% increase since the Iran conflict started on February 28, 2026. Despite efforts to reduce consumption by slowing the itinerary and spending more time in port, the company said these measures were insufficient to offset the exponential surge.

Operator announces uncertain restructuring due to financial strain

In an online statement dated October 27, 2026, Villa Vie Residences said the extraordinary rise in fuel costs forced the company to initiate a 60-day restructuring and recapitalization process with no guaranteed outcome. The operator indicated it cannot transfer these increases onto residents, which created unsustainable financial pressure on the current operating model.

Passengers disembarked and provided temporary accommodation

Following the

decision to end the cruise, passengers and crew members were disembarked in Cambodia and arrangements were made for their temporary housing. The premature cancellation halted the ship’s planned stops at several international ports along its extensive multi-year itinerary.

Villa Vie Odyssey featured amenities including a fitness center, spa, business center, three restaurants, and five bars and lounges with complimentary alcoholic beverages. Marketed as a permanent home at sea, the vessel offered luxury residential accommodations while traveling to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
