Vietnam’s tourism destinations and businesses are launching new products and intensifying preparations for safe, quality visitor services during the 2026 National Day holiday. The Traveloka SEA Index released on August 11 identified Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc as the top five most booked destinations by Vietnamese travelers in the second quarter and for the National Day period. Travel patterns show a shift from traditional sightseeing and resort stays toward experiences centered on local culture, cuisine, arts, festivals, museums, craft villages, and community activities, driving tourism product innovation and longer stays.
Cultural and Artistic Events Across Multiple Destinations
Several cultural activities
are planned for the National Day holiday to reinforce this trend. The “Hoi An Memories” show will stage its “Flag Hat” version in Da Nang from August 26 to September 2. Phu Quoc will host an exhibition titled “The Memory of Flowers.” Thanh Hoa will conduct the Sam Son Kite Festival 2026 from August 30 to September 1. Moc Chau province will organize its Culture and Tourism Week from August 27 to September 5 featuring cultural, artistic, and community-based programs. Additionally, as Vietnam marks the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, heritage tours emphasizing history and revolutionary
themes are being promoted at the urging of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
Visitor Growth and Revenue in Hanoi and Nationwide Trends
Hanoi recorded significant visitor increases in the first half of 2026. The capital welcomed 18.01 million visitors, up 15.7% year-on-year, including a 26.8% rise in international arrivals. Tourism revenue in Hanoi grew by 19.1% during this period, with the city’s five-millionth international visitor arriving on July 7. Nationally, Vietnam received nearly 12.3 million international visitors during the first six months of 2026, a 14.9% increase compared to the previous year.
Government and Local Authority Measures to Ensure Safety and Quality
VNAT has directed tourism authorities in centrally governed cities and provinces to maintain security, safety,
and high service standards for the National Day and throughout the remainder of 2026. Coordination with police, health, and transport agencies aims to uphold public order, traffic safety, fire prevention, and natural disaster responses. Visitor flows will be managed at major sites to avoid overcrowding. Tourism providers must improve food safety, fire prevention, environmental protection, and overall service quality, with strict enforcement of violations. Transparent pricing is mandated, requiring clear display of room rates, service fees, promotions, refund, and cancellation policies. Providers must deliver services at advertised prices and uphold promised quality levels.
Tourism Industry Advisories and Improvements in Key Destinations
Travelers are advised to select tours operated
by licensed companies and obtain travel insurance to avoid risks associated with unregulated tours promoted by individuals, KOLs, or KOCs. Ninh Binh province, with over 70 tourism sites and roughly 1,500 accommodations offering around 23,000 rooms, has enhanced visitor experiences at Tam Coc-Bich Dong through blooming water lilies, improved landscapes, sanitation, staffing, and directional signage. Hanoi, Sa Pa, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc also continue to upgrade infrastructure and implement measures for security, hygiene, and service quality in anticipation of National Day and peak season demand.
Vietnam targets 25 million international visitors, 150 million domestic tourists, and approximately
1.125 quadrillion VND (~43 billion USD) in tourism revenue in 2026. Strong growth in visitor numbers and revenue in the first half of the year supports expectations for continued acceleration as the year progresses.
