Venice city authorities are considering increasing the daily tourist entry fee for day-trippers to as much as €30 ($34) and extending the period during which the fee applies. The current fee, introduced in 2024, ranges from €5 to €10 and is active on selected days. In 2026, the fee was charged from April 3 to July 26 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., resulting in just under 680,000 tickets sold and generating over €5.2 million in revenue.

Michele Zuin, Venice’s Budget and Taxation Councillor, stated that the existing fee lacks a sufficient deterrent effect because it remains affordable for almost
all visitors. Zuin said that while there has been discussion of raising the charge up to €50, a maximum of €30 is the more likely outcome. The 2027 fee change will require approval from higher government authorities.

The fee targets day visitors and includes exemptions such as for children under 14 years old. Early ticket purchasers can pay a lower rate. The fee increase is intended to encourage travelers to avoid peak congestion periods, including holiday dates like the May Day public holiday, in efforts to better distribute tourist flows throughout the year.
