Flight disruptions across the United States escalated on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with FlightAware reporting 1,886 delays and 52 cancellations involving flights within, into, or out of the country as of 6:45 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The disruptions marked a significant increase from earlier that day when approximately 800 delays and 32 cancellations had been recorded in the morning hours.

Low Clouds Impact Major U.S. Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified low cloud conditions as a key factor threatening flight operations at several large airports. Denver International Airport, San Diego International Airport, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport were specifically named by the FAA as potentially affected

by these weather conditions. These low clouds reduce the number of aircraft that can land safely within a given timeframe, contributing to delays at these hubs.

Airline Scheduling Adjustments and Passenger Guidance

Throughout the day on October 27, airlines adjusted schedules in response to fluctuating factors including low cloud cover, air traffic density, aircraft availability, and crew scheduling requirements. The FAA emphasized that not all delays and cancellations recorded were weather-related. Passengers on domestic and connecting flights across the U.S. experienced disruptions and were advised to allow extra time for travel and monitor their flight status closely before proceeding to airports.

FlightAware Data Highlights Broader Flight Disruptions

FlightAware’s global tracking data showed

over 12,000 flight delays and 730 cancellations worldwide on October 27, 2026. In the U.S. alone, the 1,886 delays and 52 cancellations reported by 6:45 p.m. EDT reflect the escalating disruptions over the course of the day. Despite the volume of delays and cancellations, the FAA reported no nationwide ground stops were in effect throughout the day. The FAA’s National Airspace System dashboard provided real-time updates on airport constraints and traffic management programs to assist airline operations.
