United Airlines is expanding its international network by adding 10 new nonstop destinations across Europe and Asia starting in 2027. The new cities include Okinawa in Japan; Toulouse and Marseille in France; Luxembourg City; Ibiza and Valencia in Spain; Terceira in Portugal’s Azores; Ljubljana in Slovenia; and Olbia and Catania in Italy.
These new routes will operate from United hubs at San Francisco International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport. Service from San Francisco to Okinawa will begin March 27, 2027, with flights three times weekly. Washington Dulles will start daily flights to Toulouse on April
26, 2027. Newark will add eight new destinations, including daily service to Luxembourg starting April 2, 2027.
United will also introduce new service to existing international airports. Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan will launch March 27, 2027; Washington Dulles to Milan, Italy on May 28, 2027; and Denver to Paris, France on May 27, 2027. Additionally, United will resume flights between San Francisco and Tel Aviv, Israel on March 28, 2027.
Use of Airbus A321XLR on New International Routes
Several of United’s new European routes will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR, the airline’s newest international aircraft model. Newark will deploy the A321XLR for flights to Luxembourg, Ibiza,
Valencia, and Marseille. Washington Dulles will use the aircraft for its Toulouse route.
The A321XLR features United Polaris suites equipped with privacy doors, Economy Plus seating, and other enhanced amenities. International service with the A321XLR is set to begin December 1, 2026, starting with flights from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin. Washington Dulles will be United’s first hub to operate the A321XLR on international routes. Tickets for these inaugural flights will be available from August 27, 2026.
United Airlines Network Strategy and Traveler Options
Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United Airlines, stated the carrier aims to provide destinations for
travelers at every stage of life and trip purpose. He emphasized that United is connecting cultures on a scale he described as unmatched by any other airline. Over the past decade, United has added flights to nearly 60 new international cities.
Passengers will gain access to nonstop service to 10 international destinations not currently served nonstop by other U.S. airlines. The expansion also adds more frequent options to established destinations with modern aircraft offering upgraded passenger amenities. These developments enhance United’s global network, offering travelers increased choice starting in 2027.
