For the first time, commercial research-intensive companies can endorse exceptional researchers working on funded projects. This includes global names like AstraZeneca, Jaguar Land Rover, Added Value Solutions (AVS), Denroy Plastics, and Ffilm Cymru.
These companies operate in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, automotive innovation, sustainable manufacturing, and creative industries, providing new opportunities for researchers to contribute to UK-based advanced projects.
Over 12,500 Researchers Helped Through Endorsed Funder Pathway
Since the Global Talent
visa launched, more than 12,500 individuals from over 130 countries have been supported to develop research careers in the UK through the endorsed funder route.
The visa recognizes talent at various career stages through academic appointments, fellowships, funded research grants, or peer-reviewed nominations, enabling quick entry for top global scientific talent.
Government and Industry Measures to Boost Innovation and Skills
In April 2026, the Home Office simplified the fast-track Academic Appointments route to cover all research and innovation leadership and PhD-level roles at approved UK institutions, enhancing visa accessibility for researchers.
The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is broadening the Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) scheme under the
Government Authorised Exchange visa route to more R&D businesses. This expansion targets priority technology sectors such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and engineering biology.
Through a £54 million Global Talent Fund, 18 leading researchers have already relocated to the UK to work on projects aligned with the UK’s Industrial Strategy, advancing fields like clean energy and life sciences.

The expansion supports high-growth sectors highlighted in the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy, including advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, life sciences, clean energy, and the creative economy.
Industry bodies such as the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), BioIndustry Association, and UKQuantum contributed
to the expansion development, emphasizing its significance in addressing talent gaps in research-driven companies.
