Syrian Airlines is set to launch direct flights to Copenhagen and Vienna on September 21 and 22, 2026, respectively. These new routes increase the airline’s European destinations to three, alongside its existing service to Amsterdam.
Official Plans to Expand Syrian Airlines’ European Network
Omar Al Hosari, President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, confirmed that the new connections are part of a strategic plan to develop Syria’s national carrier. The expansion aims to strengthen direct air links between Syria and Europe, offering passengers—particularly Syrians living in Europe—more travel options. These new routes reduce reliance on connecting flights, cutting journey times and associated travel costs.
Regulatory and Operational Preparations for International Routes
The launch of direct flights to Copenhagen and Vienna follows the completion of multiple regulatory and operational steps. These included securing necessary approvals and coordinating with relevant aviation authorities and airport management. Technical, commercial, ground handling, and other service arrangements were set up to ensure the sustainable operation of these new routes.
Context of Syrian Aviation and Network Growth
The broader Syrian aviation sector has seen recent developments such as the reopening of Deir Ezzor airport after a 14-year closure. Other carriers including Flydubai, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Air Arabia, and Etihad Airways have resumed or started services to Syrian cities like Aleppo and Damascus. Within this
expanding context, Syrian Airlines is continuing to work on adding further destinations in Europe and the surrounding region. Additional routes will be announced progressively as regulatory and operational requirements are fulfilled.
