Syrian Airlines will begin direct flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 21, 2026, and to Vienna, Austria, on September 22, 2026, expanding its European route network. These new services raise the carrier’s total European destinations to three, alongside its existing Amsterdam connection.
The airline currently operates scheduled flights to Amsterdam in the Netherlands and will add Copenhagen and Vienna to its European portfolio. This expansion aims to improve direct connectivity between Syria and key European hubs.
Regulatory and Operational Approvals Completed
Omar Al Hosari, President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, explained that launching these international routes required thorough regulatory and
operational approvals. Coordination with relevant aviation authorities and the respective airports—Copenhagen Airport and Vienna Airport—was essential. Technical and commercial arrangements, including ground handling services, were finalized to support ongoing operations.
Benefits for Passengers and Further Expansion
These new direct flights will offer travelers, particularly Syrians living in Europe, more travel options while reducing dependence on connecting flights. The nonstop routes are expected to cut journey times and lower associated travel costs.
Al Hosari also indicated plans to add more European and regional destinations gradually after fulfilling required regulatory and operational procedures for each route.
In parallel, Syria has recently reopened Deir Ezzor airport after a 14-year
closure, enhancing the country’s aviation infrastructure. Other carriers have resumed or introduced new services to Syrian cities, including flydubai and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi flights to Aleppo, as well as Etihad Airways’ new Abu Dhabi-Damascus connection.
