Sri Lanka launched the consultancies for developing its Global Promotional Campaign Road Map and National Tourism Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 on August 31, 2026. The event was held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) and was supported by the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation.
Purpose of Tourism Roadmap and Strategic Plan
The initiatives are designed to set a comprehensive framework for promoting Sri Lanka internationally and to outline a five-year strategy for transforming the country’s tourism sector into a high-growth industry. Led by the Tourism Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, these
efforts aim to establish strategic direction and growth momentum in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry between 2026 and 2030.
Tourism Targets for 2026, 2027 and 2030
The government set targets of 2.7 million tourist arrivals and $4.2 billion in tourism revenue for 2026. For the following year, 2027, the goals rise to over 3 million visitors and $5 billion in tourism income. The long-term plan aims to achieve $10 billion in tourism earnings by 2030, signifying a substantial increase over the five-year period.
