Southwest Airlines will introduce nonstop flights between Knoxville, Tennessee, and Las Vegas starting March 13, 2027, according to Knoxville News Sentinel. The new service will operate exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays, marking Southwest’s first direct route from McGhee Tyson Airport to Las Vegas.
Flight Details and Scheduling
The nonstop route flight time is about 4.5 hours. As of mid-July 2026, the basic fare for Southwest’s inaugural nonstop flights is priced at $573.80, compared to $458.41 for one-stop itineraries with the same origin and destination. These weekend-only flights will provide faster travel between East Tennessee and Nevada, improving convenience for travelers.
Competitive and Regional Airline Growth
Allegiant Airlines currently offers
nonstop service from Knoxville to Las Vegas. Southwest’s new direct offering will provide an alternative to Allegiant for this popular leisure route. McGhee Tyson Airport has seen expansion by multiple carriers including United Airlines, which announced a nonstop route from Knoxville to Newark, New Jersey, effective July 16, 2026. Additionally, Avelo Airlines plans seasonal flights linking Knoxville and New Haven, Connecticut in 2024.
Airport and Airline Perspectives on Service Expansion
Southwest Airlines began serving Knoxville approximately one year before July 2026 after negotiations and customer demand. Airport spokesperson Becky Huckaby reported strong passenger enthusiasm for Southwest’s presence. Southwest spokesperson Chris Perry confirmed the March 2027 launch date
for the nonstop Las Vegas flights and noted, “Southwest loves having Knoxville on our map, and we look forward to connecting another destination to it.” This new route coincides with Southwest marking one year at McGhee Tyson Airport, reinforcing growing nonstop flight options in the region served by Allegiant, American, Avelo, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United airlines.
