Southwest Airlines will begin three exclusive nonstop flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Nassau, Bahamas; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Liberia, Costa Rica starting June 3, 2027. Tickets for these routes are already available for booking.

Seasonal Weekend Service and Additional Routes

The new nonstop flights will operate seasonally twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays from June 3 through August 2, 2027. Southwest also previously announced Saturday-only service from Austin to San José, Costa Rica beginning March 13, 2027. Additionally, flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and San Juan, Puerto Rico are returning.

Austin’s Expanding Network with Seven New or Returning Routes

Overall, Austin is set to receive seven new or returning routes with Southwest Airlines,

including domestic flights to Savannah, Georgia; Bozeman, Montana; and Sarasota, Florida. The airline will also reinstate daily seasonal flights to Portland, Oregon for the summer of 2027.

Service Details and Scheduling Impacts

The twice-weekly weekend schedules for Nassau, Punta Cana, and Liberia provide useful options for travelers seeking weekend-to-weekend vacations but limit midweek travel flexibility. This seasonal offering aligns with Southwest’s largest Austin operation yet, anticipating roughly 143 departures on peak days during summer 2027.

Southwest Airlines has been serving Austin for nearly 50 years. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport CEO Ghizlane Badawi highlighted the significance of the expansion, stating, “Southwest Airlines has been a longstanding and

important partner in the growth of air service at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.” She added, “These new international routes to the Caribbean and Central America, along with expanded domestic service, strengthen our region’s connectivity and provide more options for both business and leisure travelers.”

Southwest vice president of network planning Daniel Jones said, “We are thrilled to bring this new service to Austin, where we have been the hometown carrier in the Texas state capital for nearly 50 years.”
