Southwest Airlines experienced a brief internal network outage on October 9, 2026, linked to its technology partner Amadeus. The disruption affected critical functions including boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning. Amadeus supports Southwest’s reservation system and other operational software.
Flight Delays and Cancellations Nationwide
By 9:15 a.m. on October 9, nearly 900 Southwest flights were delayed across the United States, while 43 flights were canceled. At the airline’s headquarters and hub, Dallas Love Field airport, 56 flight delays and seven cancellations were reported by 9:15 a.m.
Manual Operations During Outage
During the outage, Southwest Airlines resorted to manually checking baggage and boarding passengers until full system functionality was
restored. Lauren Rounds, spokesperson for the City of Dallas Department of Aviation, confirmed that the airline informed Love Field’s operations team about the intermittent network outages affecting boarding pass issuance and app scanning.
A Southwest Airlines spokesperson said, “The airline continued to check baggage and board flights manually while full functionality was restored.” The airline apologized for any inconvenience caused and emphasized that safety remains their top priority.
