Southwest Airlines faced extensive operational disruptions on October 9, 2026, after a brief system outage caused by an interruption with its reservation vendor Amadeus. The Dallas-based carrier relies on Amadeus for reservation systems and related functions integral to its operations.
By 9:15 a.m. local time, nearly 900 Southwest flights were reported delayed nationwide, accompanied by 43 cancellations, according to flight tracking site FlightAware. At Southwest’s headquarters and primary airport, Dallas Love Field, 56 flights were delayed and 7 canceled during the same period.
The outage triggered intermittent internal network problems that hindered boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning, according
to Lauren Rounds, spokesperson for the City of Dallas’ Department of Aviation. During the disruption, Southwest implemented manual baggage checks and boarding procedures to maintain operations while working to restore full system functionality.
In a statement, a Southwest Airlines spokesperson said the airline experienced a “brief interruption due to a system outage at our vendor, Amadeus.” The airline confirmed it continued manual baggage handling and boarding as it resolved the issues. The spokesperson added, “We apologize to our Customers for any inconvenience and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to
Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.” The City of Dallas’ Department of Aviation was kept informed of the outage and its impact on airport operations.
