Royal Caribbean has agreed to acquire a 50% equity stake in Sandals Resorts for $3 billion, valuing the Caribbean resort operator at $6 billion. The deal was announced on Wednesday, 22 September 2026.

The transaction is expected to close early in 2027. Royal Caribbean’s stock price has declined about 25% over the past year, following lowered revenue growth projections linked to weaker demand for European sailings.

Royal Caribbean’s Strategic Shift Beyond Cruising

Royal Caribbean is pursuing diversification by expanding its offerings beyond cruise vacations. The company operates several private destinations for cruise guests and is now aiming to build a stronger presence in land-based vacations through

this stake in Sandals Resorts.

Sandals Resorts Footprint and Business Impact

Sandals Resorts, including its Beaches brand, has more than a dozen properties across the Caribbean. This investment provides Royal Caribbean with access to the region’s leading all-inclusive resort market, complementing its cruise portfolio.

Earlier reports from CNBC and Financial Times indicated that both companies were negotiating this partnership. The deal is forecast to support growth for Royal Caribbean and Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean travel sector.
