Qatar’s government has unveiled a visa scheme allowing citizens of 47 countries to obtain a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival starting September 2026. The visa is granted without an application fee and is stamped in travelers’ passports at entry with arrival and permitted stay expiry dates.
Eligible Countries and Visa Conditions
The list of eligible countries includes Andorra, Singapore, Argentina, Macedonia, Panama, Cuba, Costa Rica, Australia, Britain, San Marino, South Korea, Belarus, Georgia, the Maldives, Suriname, Bolivia, Guyana, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Hong Kong, Moldova, Thailand, Vatican City, Brunei, India, Monaco, Ukraine, Canada, Indonesia, New Zealand, the United States of America, Chile, Ireland, Paraguay, Uruguay,
Pakistan, and notably South Africa as the only African nation.
Travelers must present passports valid for at least six months and have confirmed return or onward travel tickets to qualify for the visa. The initial visa validity period is 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days.
Practical Details for Travelers
The visa allows multiple entries during the validity period without requiring travelers to reapply. Visitors can enter and leave Qatar multiple times using the same visa. The scheme is designed solely for tourism purposes and does not cover other visa types or activities.
Visas issued on arrival will officially
start from September 2026. Arrival stamps will record the entry date and the expiration of the permitted stay, providing clear documentation of the visa timeline.

South Africa’s inclusion as the only African country on the list marks a significant gesture for travelers from the continent seeking access to Qatar under simplified visa terms. This measure is part of Qatar’s broader strategy to boost visitor numbers by easing tourist visa requirements.
