A powerful Nor’easter that struck the US East Coast on September 26, 2026, resulted in the cancellation of 445 flights and delayed more than 3,000 others across the Northeast region, according to FlightAware. At the height of the storm, power outages affected over 100,000 homes and businesses, with more than 73,000 still without electricity as of 9:37 p.m. ET, PowerOutage.com reported.
The storm impacted a broad area stretching from Washington, D.C., up to Maine, including states such as Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. In New York and Connecticut alone, over 20,000 customers remained without power
late Saturday evening. Flooding was reported in New Jersey from Bergen County down to Cape May County, prompting voluntary evacuations in some Jersey Shore communities, according to NJ.com.
In anticipation of the severe weather, the governors of New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency in counties expected to receive the worst impact, including New York City. Connecticut’s governor activated the state’s Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts.
