A strong nor’easter struck the US East Coast from Washington, D.C., to Maine on September 26, 2026, causing 445 flight cancellations and more than 3,000 delays as of 9:50 p.m. ET. PowerOutage.com recorded power outages impacting over 100,000 homes and businesses at the storm’s peak, with more than 73,000 still without electricity by 9:37 p.m. ET across Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania.
New York and Connecticut each had over 20,000 customers without power. The combined outages across Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey exceeded 100,000 earlier in the day, severely affecting residents and businesses.
Flooding, Evacuations, and Event Disruptions
Flooding was reported in New Jersey from Bergen County in the north to Cape May County in the south. Some Jersey Shore communities issued voluntary evacuations due to rising waters. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, postponed the AC/DC concert originally scheduled for September 25 to October 2 as a result of flooding caused by the nor’easter.
The US National Weather Service issued warnings for coastal flooding, rip currents, strong wind gusts, and heavy rain in the Mid-Atlantic and New England through Monday. In response to the anticipated threat, the governors of New York and New Jersey declared states
of emergency on September 25 for counties expected to suffer the worst storm impacts, including New York City. Connecticut’s governor activated the state’s Emergency Operations Center to manage the storm’s effects.
