A powerful nor’easter moved across the US East Coast on Saturday, September 26, 2026, triggering widespread flooding and power outages from Washington, D.C. to Maine. Over 68,000 customers remained without electricity by Saturday evening across New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania. Earlier that day, outages peaked at more than 119,000 customers. New York reported the highest number of outages, with over 31,000 customers without power, while Connecticut and New Jersey each had over 12,000 outages.
Flight Delays and Event Postponements Impact Travel
The storm severely disrupted air travel with FlightAware reporting 439 flight cancellations and 2,459 flight delays involving US airports by Saturday evening. The severe
weather also forced the postponement of the AC/DC concert initially scheduled for September 26 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, rescheduled for October 2.
Electric Utilities Respond to Thousands of Outages
Utility provider PSEG Long Island reported that severe weather affected more than 13,000 customers on Long Island and the Rockaways. The company restored electricity to over 45,000 customers since Friday morning. Central Hudson Gas & Electric is managing restoration efforts for over 19,000 customers, particularly in Ulster County, New York, and expects repair work to continue into Sunday.
States Declare Emergencies as Nor’easter Continues
Flooding affected New Jersey from Bergen County to Cape May County, with several Jersey Shore communities
issuing voluntary evacuation notices. The governors of New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency covering the most impacted areas, including New York City. Connecticut activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate storm response. The US National Weather Service warned that the nor’easter would continue producing coastal flooding, strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and dangerous rip currents from the Mid-Atlantic to New England through Monday.
