Nobu Hospitality has announced plans to open a new Nobu hotel and restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with an expected opening date by 2028. The project will involve a partnership with real estate firm KTT.
Hotel Features and Culinary Offerings
The upcoming luxury property will have 50 rooms and include a signature Nobu restaurant and bar located at street level. Additionally, the hotel will offer a rooftop bar and lounge. The Nobu venues will feature menu staples such as black miso cod and beverages like the lychee martini, dishes that have been integral to Nobu’s brand since its origins.
Nobu’s Brand Growth and Global Portfolio
Nobu Hospitality was launched by
chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and producer Meir Teper in the 1990s. Its first hotel opened in Las Vegas in 2013. As of 2026, the company operates 20 Nobu hotels worldwide and has 28 additional hotels planned over the next decade. Upcoming openings include locations in Barbuda, New York, and Rutland in England, where the brand is developing its first countryside resort across 185 acres.
Luxury Tourism Growth in Puerto Rico
The luxury tourism market in Puerto Rico has grown significantly. Between 2025 and 2026, occupancy at luxury and upper-upscale hotels rose by 14%, while visitor hotel nights increased 18% to 262,779 in 2025.
This growth has attracted hotel chains such as Hyatt Centric, which launched the Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde after a $30 million renovation in December 2025, and Hilton, which is expanding properties in San Juan, Ponce, and Dorado.
Official Statements on the San Juan Project
Trevor Horwell, chief executive of Nobu Hospitality, said Puerto Rico “has long been one of the Caribbean’s most compelling destinations, celebrated for its rich history, vibrant culture, and exceptional hospitality.” He added that “bringing the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant to San Juan allows us to become part of one of the region’s most storied neighborhoods while introducing our distinctive approach to
hospitality in a destination that continues to attract discerning travelers from around the world.” According to a Nobu Hospitality press release, the hotel will offer guests “an opportunity to experience the culture and character of the island.”
