Nearly 1,900 flights were delayed and 52 flights canceled within, into, or out of the United States as of 6:45 p.m. EDT on October 27, 2026, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. Earlier that day, FlightAware reported approximately 800 delays and 32 cancellations involving U.S. flights.

Flight Impact at Key U.S. Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration identified low cloud conditions as a factor delaying flights at Denver International Airport, San Diego International Airport, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The FAA noted that these low cloud ceilings reduce the number of aircraft that can land safely within a certain timeframe. However, not all disruptions were exclusively attributed to

weather. Airlines faced operational challenges including air traffic volume, aircraft availability, and crew scheduling.

Passenger Guidance and Airline Operations

Due to the evolving conditions, airlines adjusted flight schedules throughout the day to accommodate operational constraints. The FAA’s National Airspace System dashboard provided real-time updates on airport constraints and traffic management programs for affected facilities. Travelers were urged to monitor flight status closely and allow additional time when heading to airports impacted by low clouds and other factors.

Global Delay Context

FlightAware reported that worldwide, more than 12,000 flights were delayed and 730 were canceled on October 27, illustrating the scale of travel disruptions beyond U.S. airspace on the

same day.
