InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) Hotels & Resorts has signed a Master Development Agreement with Australian property developer ALAND to introduce the Staybridge Suites extended-stay brand to Australia. The deal sets a target to build at least 15 Staybridge Suites hotels nationwide, delivering a minimum of 2,000 rooms across the country.

Initial Developments in Greater Western Sydney

The first two properties confirmed under the agreement are Staybridge Suites Sydney Parramatta with 130 rooms and Staybridge Suites Sydney Leppington featuring 112 rooms. Both locations are situated in Greater Western Sydney, a region experiencing substantial commercial, residential, and infrastructure growth. Signature Hotel Management Group will operate these initial hotels.

Development Partners and Roles

ALAND holds exclusive rights to develop Staybridge Suites hotels across Australia and is responsible for the pipeline of at least 15 hotels. IHG provides brand management and distribution, while Signature Hotel Management Group will oversee day-to-day operations of the first two hotels. Matt Tripolone, Managing Director Australasia & Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, emphasized the long-term nature of the partnership and the clear pathway it creates for the brand in Australia.

Market Demand and Brand Positioning

The expansion targets growing demand driven by corporate travelers, extended project assignments, employee relocations, and guests requiring more space and flexibility than conventional hotel rooms. Staybridge Suites is

specifically designed for stays ranging from several days to weeks or longer, offering residential-style suites combined with hotel services and communal amenities. As of June 2026, Staybridge Suites operated 355 hotels globally with 152 more in development.

Executive Statements on Strategic Vision

Matt Tripolone described the agreement as providing a “clear pathway to build a meaningful position in the extended-stay segment,” citing considerable long-term opportunities in Australia. He also highlighted ALAND’s substantial development capabilities and shared vision with IHG for the market.

Andrew Hrsto, Founder and CEO of ALAND, referred to the agreement as “an exciting evolution” of the existing partnership with IHG, which includes

the recently opened 130-room voco Gosford hotel in New South Wales. Hrsto said the deal creates “a significant new accommodation platform across Australia” and expressed eagerness to expand beyond Parramatta and Leppington.

Geographic Focus and Existing Partnerships

The initial hotel locations reflect ALAND and IHG’s focus on Greater Western Sydney’s key growth corridors. Parramatta is recognized as one of Sydney’s major commercial centres, while Leppington is strategically positioned near Western Sydney International Airport and the developing Western Sydney Aerotropolis. The agreement builds on the companies’ existing collaboration, including voco Gosford at ALAND’s Archibald precinct in New South Wales.
