Icelandair will launch nonstop service between St. Louis Lambert International Airport and Reykjavik, Iceland, beginning May 14, 2027. The airline will operate four weekly nonstop flights through October 24, 2027, making St. Louis its 16th U.S. destination.
St. Louis Lambert International Airport has not had nonstop flights to Iceland since WOW Air ceased service in 2019. The airport currently offers daily nonstop flights to London via British Airways and five weekly nonstop flights to Germany via Lufthansa.
Officials Highlight Tourism Growth and Global Connectivity
Tómas Ingason, Icelandair’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “St. Louis has long been known as the gateway to the West. Starting next May, it
also becomes the gateway to Iceland and onward to Europe.” Brad Dean, CEO and president of Explore St. Louis, linked the new route to a 12% increase in hotel bookings in St. Louis and St. Louis County over the past year. He said increased flight capacity at Lambert International Airport has allowed residents, businesses, and visitors to expand global travel opportunities.
Mayor Cara Spencer and St. Louis County Executive Sam Page attended the announcement. Spencer said, “Having a direct international flight to Iceland gives St. Louisans more choices of where to travel, where to go, and where to experience the
world.” She also noted that this route elevates the St. Louis region as a leisure, meetings, and convention destination.
Traveler Impact and Regional Benefits
The new nonstop service will give St. Louis travelers straightforward access to Iceland and onward connections to Europe. Ingason said, “Starting May 2027, St. Louis becomes the gateway to Iceland and onward to Europe.” Dean added, “What we’ve seen in 2026 is when you add additional capacity to Lambert International Airport residents and businesses here take advantage of it, and visitors globally are truly ready to take advantage of it.” Spencer said the flight “opens a door that allows more people
to discover our city and gives St. Louisans, of course, another opportunity to discover the world.”
