Himalaya Airlines is launching a new direct flight route between Kathmandu, Nepal, and Hangzhou, China, with the inaugural flight scheduled for September 30, 2026. This route will initially operate twice weekly under flight number H9225 departing Kathmandu at 5:15 pm every Wednesday and Sunday, arriving in Hangzhou at 1:05 am the following day. The return service, flight H9226, will depart Hangzhou at 2:05 am every Monday and Thursday, landing in Kathmandu at 6:20 am the same day. Himalaya Airlines is the exclusive operator of this direct connection.
Resumption of Kathmandu–Shanghai Service
On September 28, 2026, Himalaya Airlines will resume its direct Kathmandu–Shanghai flights, also
operating twice weekly. Outbound flights from Kathmandu will take place on Mondays and Fridays, while return flights from Shanghai are scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday. Himalaya Airlines remains the sole airline providing direct Kathmandu–Shanghai service. The resumption reinstates a route that was previously suspended and is timed to coincide with Nepal’s peak autumn tourism season.
Significance of Hangzhou and Shanghai Destinations
Hangzhou is the capital city of China’s Zhejiang province and is notable for three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the West Lake Cultural Landscape, the Grand Canal, and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City. Shanghai is China’s largest city and a major global financial center. Both
destinations hold economic and cultural importance that aligns with Himalaya Airlines’ strategic objectives.
Strategic Expansion and Tourism Goals
The new and resumed routes are part of Himalaya Airlines’ plan to establish direct connections with ten significant Chinese tourism and economic hubs. The airline aims to increase inbound Chinese tourists to Nepal, targeting one million visitors in the long term. Both routes start service during Nepal’s high tourism season to support the country’s hospitality industry and broader economic recovery. Flight frequencies on both routes may increase based on passenger demand.
