Guangdong province is rolling out a 30 million yuan (4.2 million USD) cultural and tourism subsidy campaign to stimulate spending during the forthcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. The program is organized by the Guangdong Provincial Culture and Tourism Department and will run from September 11, 2026, through October 31, 2026.
Campaign Details and Eligible Offers
The subsidy campaign provides residents and visitors from both mainland China and overseas with promotional discounts of up to 500 yuan per transaction. Eligible tourism products include hotel and homestay accommodation, scenic attraction tickets, tour packages, cruises, yacht excursions, family tours, study tours, and senior-friendly wellness travel. The
campaign incorporates both online and offline promotions to maximize reach.
Expansion from Prior Year and Results
The current 30 million yuan allocation marks an increase from the 20 million yuan subsidy budget in 2025, reflecting the previous campaign’s effectiveness. According to data reported by chinadailyhk, subsidies from the last year’s program generated tourism consumption exceeding eight times the subsidy value. During the combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays in the previous year, Guangdong recorded tourism revenue of 61.32 billion yuan, an increase of 14.2 percent year-on-year, alongside 65.18 million tourist arrivals.
Target Beneficiaries and Destinations
The campaign particularly aims to invigorate cross-boundary tourism from the Hong Kong and Macao
Special Administrative Regions, whose residents are eligible for the subsidies. Popular travel destinations within Guangdong for short trips include Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Foshan, locations that attract high volumes of visitors during the holiday period.
Transportation Links and Economic Impact
Enhanced high-speed rail and road infrastructure connects Guangdong’s major cities, facilitating short-term travel and increasing tourism spending on accommodation, dining, shopping, and cultural experiences. The subsidy initiative is designed to support local tourism businesses by boosting visitor numbers and consumption ahead of the peak autumn holiday season across the province.
