GCC Tourism Sector Grows to $131.9 Billion in 2025

Tourism revenue across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region surged to $131.9 billion in 2025, marking a 9.7 percent increase from the previous year. The number of international tourists visiting the six GCC countries reached 75.7 million, up 4.9 percent from 2024, driven by higher international arrivals and expanding travel infrastructure.

Intra-GCC Travel and Hospitality Expansion

Tourist movements among GCC member states climbed 3.6 percent to 20.1 million in 2025, while the number of hotels rose 4.8 percent to 12,400 establishments. This growth in intra-regional travel and hotel capacity reflects ongoing efforts to meet rising demand and support the expanding tourism sector within the GCC.

Advancements in Digital Indexes Reflect Tourism Competitiveness

The six GCC countries scored between 34 and 99 points on the 2025 Emerging Technologies Adoption Index, with three nations ranking among the world’s top 20 in this category. On the Mobile Application Development Index, GCC scores ranged from 60 to 77 points, highlighting the digital infrastructure supporting the development of tourism-related applications. Similarly, the region achieved scores between 56 and 99 on the Government Online Services Index, with three GCC countries placing in the global top 25.

Digital Transformation Enhances Visitor Services and Regional Integration

The Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf emphasized the role of digital infrastructure and artificial

intelligence in enhancing tourism competitiveness. Digital government services are simplifying travel procedures and accommodation arrangements, providing visitors with easier access to tourism activities. Increasing use of AI and data analytics supports better understanding of visitor preferences, demand forecasting, and sustainability efforts. Plans for closer digital integration among GCC countries include shared platforms linking bookings, transport, and tourism information, aiming to facilitate smoother travel and boost intra-regional tourism.

Tourism’s Economic Role in GCC Diversification

Tourism contributes significantly to the GCC economies’ diversification efforts beyond oil by supporting sectors such as aviation, transport, hospitality, retail, and entertainment. It promotes investment, job creation, and expands non-oil economic activity throughout

the region, making it a vital part of the GCC’s economic strategy.
