A temporary outage affected radar and other air traffic control systems at a Minneapolis air traffic control facility on August 18, 2026, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Covering an airspace region of 330,000 square miles, the Minneapolis facility manages traffic across Minnesota and nine surrounding Midwest states including Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. The outage hindered flight operations for inbound and outbound flights across these states. The disruption was confirmed not to have occurred at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport itself.

The outage forced flights to be grounded or diverted, resulting in average delays

of 90 minutes at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport on the evening of August 18. Other regional airports in affected states reported ongoing delays and operational disruptions throughout the evening.

The FAA confirmed the affected systems were restored later on August 18, but acknowledged that disruptions persisted at several airports across the Midwest following the incident.
