The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for flights heading to Harry Reid International Airport from several air traffic control centers across the country. The ground stop was in effect from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on Sunday, impacting departures to Las Vegas airports.
FAA Ground Delay Program Extends Arrival Delays
Alongside the ground stop, the FAA activated a ground delay program at Harry Reid International Airport starting at 1:52 p.m., scheduled to remain through 11:59 p.m. Arriving flights faced average delays of about 72 minutes due to this program.
Thunderstorms Cause Disruptions with Possible Extension
Severe thunderstorms prompted the FAA to impose both the ground stop and the
ground delay program. The agency indicated there was a medium chance the ground stop could be extended beyond the scheduled period.
As a result, flights scheduled to arrive at Harry Reid International Airport face delays averaging 72 minutes, while departures headed to Las Vegas were halted during the ground stop period. Flight arrivals continue to be held by the ground delay program into the evening.
