The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enforced a ground stop for flights headed to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The ground stop was effective from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time and applied to departures destined for Las Vegas originating from multiple air traffic control centers across the United States. The FAA attributed the stoppage to severe thunderstorms impacting the region.
Ground Delay Program and Arrival Delays
Prior to the ground stop, the FAA initiated a ground delay program at Harry Reid International Airport starting at 1:52 p.m. PDT, scheduled to last through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The measure
was put in place due to high winds associated with the thunderstorms. Arrival flights into the airport experienced average delays of approximately 72 minutes. The FAA noted there was a medium likelihood the ground stop could be extended beyond the 4:15 p.m. ending time.
