The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on August 20, 2026, due to severe weather conditions. Washington National Airport (DCA) also experienced a ground stop that has since been lifted. Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches remain active across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.

The ground stop at BWI has resulted in flight delays and cancellations at the airport. This disruption affects flight operations as air traffic has been temporarily halted by FAA directives stemming from hazardous weather in the region.
