The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on Thursday, August 20, 2026. A ground stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) also occurred on the same day but has since been lifted.
Severe weather caused the FAA to impose these ground stops and issue tornado and severe thunderstorm watches for the Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area. Travelers at BWI should expect flight delays and cancellations due to the FAA ground stop.
