The Hanoi travel expo held from April 9 to 12, 2026 at the International Center for Exhibition (ICE) witnessed a spending surge driven by elderly tourists aged between 60 and 75, who accounted for up to 40 percent of Saigontourist Hanoi’s customers.
Elderly Tourists Book High-Value Tours
Tran Quang Binh, 82, from Cau Giay District in Hanoi, booked a seven-day, six-night tour covering Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou for four people costing over VND92 million (approx. US$3,760). He attends the fair annually, attracted by promotions and additional perks.
Tran Van Khoat, 77, from Vinh Tuy, explored domestic trips to Quang Tri and international tours to
South Korea, comparing itineraries and prices with plans to finalize bookings during the expo due to deep discounts compared to previous years.
Nguyen Van Khanh, 87, from Phuc Loi, has visited more than 30 countries, including Indonesia in 2024, and showed interest in tours to China and Russia. He noted that travel fairs provide easier access to tours compared to online booking.
Expo Scale and Elderly Tourists’ Impact
Nguyen Hoai Thu, Director of Saigontourist Hanoi, stated older travelers aged 60 to 75 are fast decision-makers, forming up to 40 percent of the company’s customer base at the event. This demographic also shows strong interest in high-end
four- to five-star resort packages.
The expo included nearly 400 booths representing more than 600 organizations and businesses from 31 provinces and cities across Vietnam and 20 countries and territories, with 15 percent of exhibitors being international companies.
Discount Offers from Leading Travel Companies
Hanotours provided direct discounts of VND10 million (US$410) on tours to the United States and VND5 million (US$205) for tours to Europe and Australia. The company also handed out 100 travel vouchers worth up to VND5 million each to early visitors.
Hoang Viet Travel offered discounts up to VND10 million (US$410) on tours to the 2026 World Cup. Domestic and Asian tours
received price cuts ranging from VND400,000 to VND3 million (US$16 to US$123).
Vietluxtour promoted green tourism and discounted summer travel packages. A five-day Hanoi – Da Nang – Hue tour started at VND3.99 million (US$163), a four-day Hanoi – Ly Son tour from VND3.69 million (US$151), and trips to Phu Quoc or Quy Nhon began at VND3.19 million (US$130).
Nextsar Travel offered more than 10 zero-cost tour packages on April 10 morning, including trips to Cuc Phuong National Park and Phu Quoc. They also marketed over 100 Phu Quoc packages priced from VND3.9 million (US$159).
Vietravel applied discounts up to
30 percent on domestic tours and savings up to VND10 million (US$410) on more than 60 international packages. Early bookings during the summer season gained additional discounts up to VND3 million (US$123) per person.
Hotel and Service Discounts
Hotels participating with promotional offers included Hoa Binh Hotel, Hanoi Hotel, Pullman Hanoi, De l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery, and Thang Long Opera. Visitors accessed discounts on accommodation, buffet dining, afternoon tea, MICE services, and conference packages.
Expo Theme Focuses on Digital and Green Tourism Growth
The event’s theme, “Digital transformation and green growth – Elevating Vietnam’s tourism,” emphasized innovations and sustainable practices across the sector. Interactive activities such as lucky draws and on-site giveaways complemented
the expo atmosphere.
