East Midlands Railway (EMR) staff will carry out strike action on August 15, 2026, announced by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT). The industrial action will severely disrupt EMR services between Sheffield and London St Pancras.

Reduced Sheffield to London Services on Strike Day

A significantly reduced EMR train service will operate on August 15 with only one train per hour running between Sheffield and London St Pancras from 7am to 7pm. No trains are scheduled before 7am or after 7pm, limiting passenger options on the strike day.

East Midlands Railway has advised passengers to verify full journey times, including the first and last

trains available, ahead of travel on the affected date.

Alternative Travel and Recent Service Cuts

Passengers holding pre-booked EMR tickets can use London North Eastern Railway (LNER) services from Doncaster to London Kings Cross on August 15 as an alternative. This arrangement is facilitated by National Rail to accommodate passengers during the strike.

Prior to the strike, EMR implemented significant service reductions in July 2026 on the Intercity route to London St Pancras. This included fewer carriages on the 6:30am and 7:02pm trains and cancellations of the 2pm, 2:35pm, and 5pm journeys. Additionally, EMR services have faced disruptions linked to speed restrictions due to recent heatwave

conditions, compounding operational challenges.

An EMR spokesperson confirmed: “There will be a significantly reduced train service to/from London St Pancras with trains starting after 7am and finishing before 7pm only.” The spokesperson added: “We advise you to check your full journey, including first and last trains, before travelling on these dates.”

Passengers on the Sheffield to London route should expect cancellations and delays on August 15 and plan accordingly given the limited service and operational hours during the strike.
