This expansion coincides with Delta’s 900% growth in the Austin market over the past decade, supported by 3,200 employees across Texas and 32 current routes operating from Austin.
Officials Cite Austin’s Growth Driving New Service
Joe Esposito, Delta’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, stated, “As you’ve grown your city, we have taken notice of your trends — and we want to be a part of it.” Delta President Peter Carter highlighted the airline’s 3,200 Texas
employees and rapid Austin market expansion. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz described the announcement as a “big damn deal,” underscoring Austin’s transformation into a Silicon Valley-like hub that demands enhanced global connectivity. Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, said the new route reflects Central Texas’s growth and will provide greater access to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
Delta’s Expanding Presence at Austin-Bergstrom
Delta is Austin-Bergstrom’s second-largest carrier after Southwest Airlines, experiencing a nearly 15% passenger increase from 2024 to 2025. The airline plans to open a new Delta Sky Club and Delta One lounge at Austin-Bergstrom, with the Delta One lounge being
the first located outside a Delta hub. Additional investments include establishing a flight attendant base in Austin to support growing operations.
