More than 120 trains operating within the Delhi Division of Northern Railway will be cancelled, rerouted, rescheduled, or short-terminated between September 11 and September 13, 2026. The disruptions affect services running through key stations in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), including New Delhi, Old Delhi (Delhi Junction), Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti, and Delhi Shahdara.

Scope of Operational Changes

The changes include cancellations, route diversions, short-terminations of trains, delayed starts, and adjusted departure times. Impacted trains cover a broad range of services from flagship long-distance express trains connecting New Delhi to major Indian cities to multiple daily local trains operating suburban routes. Among

the local commuter trains affected are Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) and Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMUs) with partial or full cancellations on routes linking Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti, Delhi, and surrounding suburban stations.

Official Statements and Traveler Advice

Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, confirmed these operational adjustments are essential due to urgent operational requirements. Northern Railway is actively managing traffic flow to reduce extended inconvenience, while maintaining security and order in the Delhi Division. Passengers planning to travel through New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ghaziabad, or associated stations during the three-day period are strongly advised to verify train running status in

real time. Live updates are accessible via the Northern Railway helpline, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app, and IRCTC online portals.

Security-Driven Disruptions Linked to BRICS Summit

The train service disruptions stem from heightened security protocols instituted for the upcoming BRICS summit scheduled in Delhi. The operational changes aim to support robust security arrangements around critical infrastructure and high-profile venues during September 11-13, 2026.
