Cebu province welcomed 1,080,809 tourist arrivals from January through August 2026, reflecting a 12.8 percent increase compared to 958,317 arrivals during the same period in 2025, according to data from the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office published on October 5, 2026. This marks a growth of 122,492 tourists year-on-year.

Domestic and Foreign Visitor Growth in Cebu

Domestic travelers accounted for 838,575 visitors during the first eight months of 2026, registering a 9.2 percent year-over-year increase. Foreign arrivals surged by 27.3 percent to 242,108 visitors. South Korea remained the largest foreign source market with 60,518 arrivals, posting the highest absolute increase of 13,630 tourists. The United States and Japan

ranked second and third with 22,866 and 22,223 arrivals respectively. Additional significant growth was noted from China and the United Kingdom among 53 foreign markets expanding Cebu’s international tourism base.

Official Actions to Boost Tourism and Connectivity

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro attributed the rise in arrivals to intensified promotional campaigns targeting both domestic and international markets. Efforts also included lobbying airlines to expand direct flights into Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Cebu’s primary gateway for air travelers.

Regional Tourism Development and Route Expansion

The growth in Cebu’s tourist arrivals aligns with regional initiatives, such as those discussed during the 19th East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation General Assembly hosted in Cebu in September 2026. The expansion

of international routes to Mactan-Cebu International Airport was a central focus of the assembly, supporting Cebu’s emergence as a key tourism destination in the Philippines.

Governor Baricuatro on Connectivity Benefits

Governor Pamela Baricuatro said, “Improved connectivity could create greater opportunities not only for tourism but also for business, investment, and people-to-people exchanges,” highlighting tourism growth’s broader economic impact.
