Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled Carnival Destiny as its largest ship to date and the inaugural vessel in its new Ace Class. The megaship will weigh 230,000 gross tons and accommodate over 8,000 passengers when at full capacity. The steel-cutting ceremony marking the start of construction took place in July 2026 in Monfalcone, Italy.
Innovative Design and New Amenities
Carnival Destiny will offer more than 70% new dining venues, bars, lounges, entertainment options, and attractions. The ship emphasizes an outward-facing design featuring ocean-view balcony cabins, a redesigned lanai deck, and approximately 4.5 acres of glass, including multi-story glass walls. These elements aim to enhance passengers’
connection to the ocean and elevate the onboard experience.
Legacy and Builder Details
The vessel shares its name with Carnival’s original Carnival Destiny, launched in 1996 as the world’s first cruise ship exceeding 100,000 gross tons—then 30% larger than any other ship. This original ship, refurbished and renamed Carnival Sunshine in 2013, remains in service. Carnival Destiny is being built by Fincantieri, which is delivering its 77th ship to the Carnival Corporation portfolio, a company that has commissioned 76 ships from Fincantieri over the past 30 years across eight cruise lines.
Itineraries and Fleet Development
Carnival Destiny’s itineraries will include destinations within the Paradise Collection, covering regions in
the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico. Ports include Celebration Key, RelaxAway, and Half Moon Cay. The ship will join Carnival Festivale, an Excel-class vessel arriving at Port Canaveral as Carnival’s largest ship until Carnival Destiny enters service in 2029. Carnival aims to operate a fleet of 30 ships by 2027.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, stated that Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that transformed cruising. She highlighted that the ship creates a more expansive environment onboard, allowing guests to feel more connected and enjoy their experience more fully.
