On August 10, 2026, Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, led by HE Huot Hak, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, headed by HE Dith Tina, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate agriculture with tourism development. The agreement aims to curb economic leakage within the tourism sector by strengthening local agricultural production and increasing retention of tourism revenues in Cambodia.

Four Strategic Objectives to Connect Farming and Tourism

The MoU outlines four primary objectives to link domestic farming directly with visitor markets. First, joint efforts will focus on developing agritourism and ecotourism ventures on lands managed by the Ministry of Agriculture. Second, the partnership will improve

operational efficiency to establish green belts and enhance agricultural value chains near major tourist destinations. Third, a real-time information exchange system will align agricultural supply with tourism demand. Fourth, action plans will prioritize maximizing the integration of locally produced agricultural products within hotels, restaurants, and tourism businesses across the country.

Tourism Development Initiatives and Infrastructure Plans

The Ministry of Tourism supports initiatives combining commercial, entertainment, and night tourism to increase arrivals, especially from key markets such as China. Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. announced plans to redevelop the former airport site, aiming to transform Cambodia’s tourism infrastructure. Legendary Entertainment and Culture Group Ltd. will

open its flagship Immersive Angkor project in Siem Reap by late 2026 or early 2027, merging digital innovation with Cambodia’s historical narrative.

Government Sustainable Tourism Projects

The Royal Government of Cambodia has introduced a multi-sectoral plan to develop Phnom Kulen National Park as a sustainable eco-tourism destination emphasizing environmental conservation and community livelihoods. Inter-ministerial efforts are also advancing the development of Koh Rong City into a world-class tourist hub, with an Investment Promotion Working Group meeting held on June 5, 2026, in Preah Sihanouk Province under HE Hean Sahip’s leadership. Additionally, Angkor Enterprise continues providing essential funding for the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital, linking

tourism growth with social services.

Tourism Market Data and Payment System Advances

Cambodia earned over $18 million from international ticket sales at Angkor Archaeological Park during the first half of 2026, though this revenue reflected a contraction compared to the previous year. During January-March 2026, about 22,000 Indian tourists visited Cambodia. To facilitate payments, a cross-border Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and QR code system was launched between Cambodia and India on June 2, 2026, enhancing transactional ease for travelers and merchants.
