Logan International Airport in Boston experienced 520 flight delays and cancellations on Monday, September 28, 2026, according to 105.7 WROR. The disruptions occurred throughout the day and into the night, affecting both inbound and outbound flights.

Flight interruptions stemmed from the combined impact of a lingering nor’easter and ongoing runway and taxiway construction at the airport. The nor’easter dropped between three and more than seven inches of rain across southern New England. Massport officials confirmed that wind conditions prevented use of a key runway closed for construction, requiring aircraft to rely on alternative runways that operate less efficiently.

Travel Impact and Advisory

The Federal

Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at Logan Airport beginning 7:30 a.m. on September 28, lasting until 2:59 a.m. on September 29. Inbound flights faced delays averaging five hours and 14 minutes. Massport advised travelers to verify flight statuses with airlines ahead of their trips due to the extensive delays and cancellations.

Operational Constraints and Ground Delay Details

The FAA implemented the ground delay to manage air traffic amid adverse weather and reduced runway availability. Massport spokesperson Jennifer Mehigan explained that typical use of the runway closed for construction was not possible given Monday’s wind speeds, leading to constrained air traffic operations. This reduced efficiency contributed

significantly to the volume of flight delays and cancellations at Logan Airport.
