Azul Hospitality Group completed the conversion and reopening of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa as Hotel Solea in March 2026. The property now operates under Marriott’s Autograph Collection in Carlsbad, California.
The repositioning involved a comprehensive multi-million-dollar renovation and was managed by Azul Hospitality Group on behalf of Grand Pacific Resorts. Azul oversaw the entire operational transition while keeping the resort continuously operational during the conversion.
Hotel Solea features 201 guestrooms and suites, multiple food and beverage outlets including the signature restaurant Verise, and offers over 70,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor meeting and event space
designed to serve both lifestyle and business gatherings.
Alvaro Fraile, CEO of Azul Hospitality Group, said the project entailed exact coordination across operations, ownership, design, commercial strategy, brand standards, and guest experience to complete. Timothy Stripe, co-president of Grand Pacific Resorts, described the transformation as a strategic investment to reposition the asset better aligned with today’s lifestyle traveler and group customer, emphasizing Azul’s role in managing the operational complexities.
The repositioned Hotel Solea aims to establish itself as a distinctive lifestyle destination within Southern California’s upscale hospitality market.
