American Airlines and Southwest Airlines combined reported over 2,000 delayed flights across the U.S. on October 23, 2026. American Airlines attributed most of its delays to a vendor technology outage affecting customers’ ability to book and check in. The issue was resolved shortly after 2:30 p.m. that day.
Delayed Flights at DFW and Other Airports
As of 2:05 p.m. on October 23, American Airlines had delayed more than 200 flights at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, where it is the dominant carrier, according to FlightAware data. Southwest Airlines reported about 70 delayed flights at the same time. Southwest’s delays were unrelated to the vendor outage impacting
American, with operations at both DFW and Love Field airports reported as less affected.
American Airlines’ Response and Travel Advisory
An American Airlines spokesperson said, “A vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights.” The airline added it was working with its technology provider to fix the problem promptly. Travelers flying American on October 23 were advised to arrive at the airport early. After 2:30 p.m., American Airlines confirmed via an updated statement that “the issue had been resolved and the airline’s systems are now operating normally.” The airline apologized for the disruption.
The disruptions came during a busy travel
period in the U.S., with American Airlines holding a significant presence at DFW and Southwest operating out of both DFW and Love Field airports.
