American Cruise Lines officially christened its new cruise ship, the American Ranger, on September 24, 2026. The ceremony took place dockside at Historic Catskill Point in Catskill, New York, and included passengers on the inaugural cruise, company executives, and crew members celebrating on the ship’s upper deck. Susan Renner, chair of the board of American Cruise Lines, served as godmother for the vessel during the traditional bottle-breaking rite.
American Ranger Ship Details
The American Ranger is the fourth Patriot Class ship in American Cruise Lines’ fleet. It accommodates 130 passengers in all balcony staterooms, including single cabins and suites. The vessel features four decks
with multiple lounges, including an upper-deck lounge equipped with a walking track, a chart room, a main restaurant, and a casual café. Amenities also include a fitness center and laundry facilities, uncommon for ships of this size.
Fleet Expansion and Future Launches
The American Ranger marks the third new ship added to American Cruise Lines’ fleet in 2026 following its sister ship, the American Maverick, christened earlier in Newport, Rhode Island. The company plans to further expand in 2027 with three additional new vessels: the American Mariner, American Navigator, both sister ships to the American Ranger, and the American Anthem, a modern American Riverboat™.
Hudson River Cruises and Seasonal Highlights
American
Ranger operates on Hudson River itineraries between New York City and Albany, with stops including Catskill, West Point, Sleepy Hollow, and Kingston/Hyde Park. The 2026 Hudson River fall foliage cruises run from September 18 through October 25 and are nearly fully booked. These cruises emphasize the region’s autumn colors and historic sites, such as West Point and the Vanderbilt Mansion.
The 2027 Hudson River cruises will begin and end in Albany and include excursions in New York City, offering cruise passengers views of the city skyline and Statue of Liberty. Summer Classic cruises are scheduled to start in June 2027,
with fall foliage cruises resuming in September.
Traveler Opportunities and Cruise Availability
Vacancies for the 2026 Hudson River cruises aboard American Ranger are limited due to near sellout status. Passengers can access guided tours of historic landmarks such as the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. Fall cruise itineraries also feature apple tastings and visits to Sleepy Hollow, known for its Halloween-themed events extending from mid-September to early November.
Official Remarks from American Cruise Lines Leadership
Charles B. Robertson, president and CEO of American Cruise Lines, said, “We are thrilled to christen the American Ranger together with our passengers and crew, surrounded by the magnificent autumn scenery
of the Hudson River Valley.” He added, “Today, American Ranger assumes the title of the nation’s newest cruise ship, though it won’t hold it for long, as three more new ships will quickly follow in 2027.”
Hudson River Overnight Cruises Uniqueness
American Cruise Lines currently operates the only overnight river cruises on the Hudson River. The river valley’s vibrant fall foliage and numerous historic locations attract seasonal tourism. The cruise itinerary integrates visits to landmarks such as Olana, Lyndhurst mansions, Whitecliff Vineyard, and culturally significant sites, enhancing regional tourism appeal.
