American Airlines restarted nonstop service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Cap-Haïtien International Airport in Haiti on November 1, 2026. This new route is the carrier’s 100th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America.
American Airlines Marks Centennial Year With Network Expansion
José A. Freig, American Airlines Vice President of International Operations, said the milestone highlights the airline’s extensive history and presence in the region during its 100th anniversary in 2026. He noted the network’s growth, including the return to Venezuela earlier in the year, reflects the airline’s legacy in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Flight Crew and Historical Service Context
The flights to Cap-Haïtien are staffed by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew. American Airlines
originally began service to Haiti in 1971 but had not operated flights there for over six years before this relaunch.
Travel Advisories and FAA Flight Restrictions
The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 travel ban for Haiti in July 2026 due to crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest and limited healthcare infrastructure. Separately, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) extended flight restrictions on U.S. planes landing in Port-au-Prince until March 2, 2027, citing attacks against aircraft.
Ticket Sales and Traveler Benefits
Tickets for nonstop Miami to Cap-Haïtien flights are available at American Airlines’ website with one-way fares starting at $591. These nonstop flights provide more direct travel options for passengers compared
to previous service interruptions.
Regional Latin American Route Expansions and Tourism Trends
In late 2026 and 2027, several airlines are expanding Latin American routes from Florida airports. JetBlue Airways added nonstop service to Cali, Colombia from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on October 15, 2026, and plans nonstop flights to Caracas by year-end. Frontier Airlines aims to launch nonstop routes from Orlando to Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín in December 2026, pending approval.
Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines will commence nonstop daily flights between Mexico City and Fort Lauderdale in 2027. Florida tourism has increased from Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil during the first half of 2026, with Brazil visitors rising
10.5%, Colombia 5.3%, and Mexico 4.9%, according to VisitFlorida.org. Canadian visitor numbers have slowed due to tariffs and political tensions.
American Airlines Operations in Venezuela
American Airlines was the first U.S. airline to resume service in Venezuela since 2019. The carrier currently flies nonstop to Caracas and Maracaibo, adding a route to Barcelona, Venezuela, starting January 15, 2027.
