Alaska Airlines will begin seasonal nonstop flights connecting Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) with Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Athens International Airport (ATH) starting in May 2027. These routes represent part of Alaska’s strategy to expand international services from its Seattle hub, including the airline’s first nonstop link from the U.S. West Coast to Athens.
Flight Schedules and Aircraft
Service to Athens will launch on May 12, 2027, operating three times weekly through October 2027, with return flights commencing May 13. Flights to Paris will begin May 25, 2027, with five weekly flights scheduled through the fall season; return flights start May 26.
Alaska Airlines will operate both routes using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Flight designations are AS196 for Seattle-Athens and AS136 for Seattle-Paris. Tickets for both routes went on sale on August 20, 2026, with introductory roundtrip Main Cabin fares starting at $999, available through August 26, 2026.
Passenger Benefits and Loyalty Integration
These nonstop flights will reduce travel times for passengers flying from the U.S. West Coast to Europe by eliminating connections typically required through East Coast or Midwest hubs. Travelers on these routes will have access to Alaska Airlines’ upgraded onboard offerings, including lie-flat business class suites and complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi powered by T-Mobile. Both
routes will be part of Alaska’s Atmos Rewards loyalty program, providing members with full integration and benefits on these transatlantic flights.
Official Statements and Strategic Significance
According to Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci, Paris and Athens have consistently been among the most requested international destinations by Atmos Rewards members. Athens International Airport CEO George Kallimasias highlighted that the nonstop service will strengthen trade, tourism, and broader economic ties between Greece and the U.S. West Coast. The Athens route will be Alaska’s longest nonstop flight to date, reflecting its commitment to expanding Seattle’s role as a major transatlantic gateway.
Network Expansion and Market Positioning
Alaska Airlines continues broadening its long-haul international
network from Seattle, which already includes destinations like London, Reykjavik, Rome, Seoul, and Tokyo. The addition of Paris and Athens supports Alaska’s goal to offer more than a dozen international long-haul routes from Seattle by 2030. The new Athens route will be unique as the only nonstop connection between the West Coast and the Greek capital. Alaska will also become the first oneworld alliance carrier to provide nonstop Seattle-Paris service. The expansion enhances Seattle’s competitiveness against traditional East Coast hubs for transatlantic travel.
