Aeromexico has announced plans to begin direct flights between Milan Malpensa Airport and Mexico City International Airport in March 2027, contingent on government approval. The airline will operate the route using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, following the recent delivery of its 25th Dreamliner model.

If approved, Milan will become Aeromexico’s second Italian destination alongside Rome Fiumicino Airport. Aeromexico currently controls 80.5% of the capacity on the Mexico City-Rome route, while Neos Air operates Cancun-Milan and Cancun-Rome services. Aeromexico also maintains a reciprocal codeshare agreement with ITA Airways covering the Mexico City-Rome service, enabling connections across Italy.

In 2025, approximately 136,100
two-way passengers traveled between Milan and Mexico, marking a 2.7% increase from the previous year. Milan ranks as Mexico’s ninth-largest European city market and second largest in Italy after Rome, which accounted for around 237,200 passengers. Air arrivals from Italy to Mexico totaled 118,242 in 2025, a 13.7% rise year over year, positioning Italy as the 13th largest source market for Mexico.

our international network, a destination that will allow us to strengthen the cultural, commercial and business ties between Mexico and Italy.” Mulinelli added that Aeromexico will be the only Mexican airline directly connecting Mexico City with both Rome and Milan, serving the growing demand for business and leisure travel.
Current Connectivity and Route Benefits
Milan presently lacks nonstop flights to Mexico City; the only direct connection to Mexico is from Cancun, served by Neos Air. The introduction of the Milan-Mexico City nonstop service will provide northern Italy with a direct link to Mexico’s capital, eliminating the need for connections through Rome or Cancun. This will
streamline travel for passengers on business or leisure trips between the two countries.
Supporting Infrastructure and Fleet Expansion
Aeromexico’s recent acquisition of its 25th Boeing 787 Dreamliner underpins its capacity to launch the Milan route. Mexico City International Airport is expected to allocate about 10 additional slot pairs to Aeromexico for the winter 2026-27 season as it expands its operating capacity, facilitating the route’s launch.
