Accessible tourism emerged as a key growth sector at WTM London 2026, held in London, where industry leaders urged travel and hospitality providers to shift focus beyond compliance toward leveraging accessibility as a market opportunity.

Spanish Tourist Office Introduces Spain For All Accessibility Initiatives

The Spanish Tourist Office launched a new hotel advisory guide and social media campaign on the opening day of WTM London 2026, integrated into its Spain for All programme. This initiative was developed over three years in partnership with industry stakeholders and disability advocates to centralize accessibility in Spain’s tourism strategy.

José Manuel de Juan González, the Spanish Tourist Office UK Director, announced the publication

of the report aimed at supporting hotels globally. “Today we’re publishing a report which gives hotels in Spain and around the world the tools they need to communicate how accessible they are,” he stated.

Industry Leaders Frame Accessible Tourism as Quality Benchmark

Miguel Carrasco, Director of Tourism and COO of the consortium of accessibility organisations involved in the Spain for All project, described accessible tourism as a standard for quality tourism rather than a niche offering. “Accessible tourism is not a different kind of tourism, it is what better tourism looks like,” Carrasco said during the event.

The broader travel and tourism sector is recognizing accessibility’s commercial value,

with destinations, airlines, airports, and hospitality providers incorporating inclusivity as a growth driver rather than solely a regulatory obligation.

Improved Communication to Transform Traveler Experience

The new hotel advisory guide facilitates clearer communication about accessibility features to prospective visitors, enhancing transparency and enabling travelers with disabilities to make informed accommodation choices. This approach also aims to attract new traveler segments and elevate the overall customer experience.

Discussions at WTM London 2026 underline that accessible tourism is moving up the agenda in global travel sectors, highlighting its expanding role as a source of business growth and market differentiation.
