American Airlines resumed nonstop flight service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Cap-Haïtien International Airport in Haiti starting November 1, 2026. This newly relaunched route represents the carrier’s 100th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America.
American Airlines initiated service to Haiti in 1971 but had not operated flights there for over six years prior to this relaunch. The new flights feature an entirely Haitian and Creole-speaking flight crew, reflecting a cultural connection with the destination.
The U.S. Department of State placed Haiti under a Level 4 travel ban in July 2026 due to risks including crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest,
and limited healthcare access. Simultaneously, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) extended restrictions on U.S. commercial flights arriving at Port-au-Prince airport through March 2, 2027, following attacks on aircraft.
Tickets for the Miami to Cap-Haïtien flights are available for purchase via aa.com. One-way fares start at $591.
José A. Freig, American Airlines Vice President of International Operations, stated that reaching 100 Caribbean and Latin American destinations during the airline’s centennial year highlights its extensive regional presence. He noted the airline’s expansion, including being the first U.S. carrier to resume service in Venezuela earlier in 2026, with routes currently flying to
Caracas and Maracaibo and an additional Barcelona route launching January 15, 2027.
Florida has experienced increased tourism from Latin American countries in early 2026. Airlines such as JetBlue, Frontier, Aeromexico, and Delta are expanding service connecting Florida to cities in Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela.
