A freight train partially derailed at Barking station in East London at approximately 13:10 on 23 October 2026, blocking two platforms and triggering widespread service disruptions.
Service Suspensions and Route Interruptions
The derailment has caused the suspension of several rail services. Platforms between Woodgrange Park and Barking remain blocked, preventing trains from running normally on those tracks. London Overground services are currently limited to the route between Gospel Oak and South Tottenham only. The c2c commuter rail line has suspended all services between Barking and Grays, affecting stops at Dagenham Dock, Rainham, and Purfleet.
No train services are stopping at multiple stations including Blackhorse Road,
Walthamstow Queen’s Road, Leytonstone High Road, Leyton Midland Road, Wanstead Park, Woodgrange Park, Barking, and Barking Riverside. Additionally, the Suffragette line has been partially suspended between Barking Riverside and South Tottenham.
Response and Safety Measures
GBR Anglia confirmed the partial derailment and reported no injuries. The company is coordinating with emergency services, including the British Transport Police and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, which is conducting an on-site investigation. Engineering teams are currently assessing the extent of the damage to the railway infrastructure caused by the incident.
Passenger Impact and Ongoing Disruption
Rail passengers should expect delays of about 10 minutes where services continue to run. Many trains have
been cancelled or rerouted due to platform blockages and track issues. Travelers using routes through Barking station have been urged to verify service updates before departing. The disturbance is projected to last through the remainder of 23 October 2026, with potential extensions into the weekend.
